At one passenger rail operator in the Northeast, Mr. Kesich provided technical leadership and facilitated improvements to their ability to safely and reliably provide service during low rail adhesion conditions. To accomplish this multi-disciplinary goal, he took a scientific and multi-pronged approach to the problem, by engaging with stakeholders in the fleet, infrastructure, and operating realm:
- Low Adhesion Working Group
- Interdisciplinary Team to implement risk reductions
- Participated in International Benchmarking
- Rail Damage Committee
- Chaired a team to investigate the cause and risks associated with extensive rail head damage.
- Developed risk mitigation activities; Enhanced Inspections, Rail Grinding, replacement
- Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) Flat Spot Committee
- Agency Lead in an international group investigating the root causes of significant wheel damage on the Bombardier M7 EMU Fleet.
- Developed and implemented equipment design changes
- Evaluated the use of “Smart Sander” on the EMU Fleet
- Developed operating rules to ensure safe train operation during low adhesion.
