Mr. Glikin led a department of 30 transit professionals scheduling bus service for a large transit system with 20 bus garages. Over time, Mr. Glikin led a successful transformation of the personnel roster from primarily individuals promoted from first level bus operations supervisor roles, with substantial operating experience, to primarily individuals recruited from outside employers and disciplines (e.g., airlines, other city agencies, rental car companies) or college-educated analysts from other positions in the transit agency. Mr. Glikin restructured the schedules unit of the former experienced incumbents leading groups with many new people that onboarded with less relevant initial experience. Mr. Glikin and his management team bridged the gap by structuring customized training to effectively train new hires from other disciplines or departments so they would understand and effectively respond to bus operations issues in their scheduling work. Leveraging the training and experience received in Mr. Glikin’s department, many of these individuals were later recruited or promoted to leadership roles within the schedules unit or bus operations.
