Design and Implementation of Positive Train Control (PTC)

Mike Brotzman

Mr. Kesich was instrumental in ensuring that the design and implementation of the PTC system at a large commuter railroad property was completed and adhered to mandated timelines.  Starting in 2006, he was directly involved in implementing an Advanced Civil Speed Enforcement System (ACSES) within that railroad’s operating environment.  This also required oversight of the M8 EMU Fleet and BL20 Locomotives procurement process as they were the first pieces of rolling stock to be fitted with this new system on that property.  Our major responsibilities on this project were:

  • Provided direction into the design and development of the system
  • Executive Interactions with BT/Siemens and Alstom Signaling
  • Developed iterative Operating Rules as the PTC Functionality was phased in
  • Ensured effective employee training was provided in advance of need.
  • Achieved all regulatory milestones
  • Identified and implemented system corrections to improve performance
